Identified Needs among  Children

The Need of Children Beyond our Shores

  1.   Blythswood Care Shoebox Ministry

Slateford Longstone has an established Shoebox ministry with a wide web of connections that extend beyond the church into the community.    This ministry is more than a church wrapping a few boxes at Christmas time.    This is an annual collaborative effort that involves Coffee Mornings, weekly Knit n Natter gatherings, collaboration with the Brownies, Schools, Shops and a constant gathering of the contents of the Shoeboxes into store rooms and packing rooms within the church with over 600 boxes filled locally each year.    The Missional Challenge is to share more fully the Blythswood Story behind the ministry and of how the distress of children was first encountered on the streets of Glasgow leading to an awareness that faith without works is dead.

The Need of Children to worship their way!

  1.  Messy Church.

Messy Church is in a place of growth as it returns to its goal of offering local children a church they can call their own, with songs, crafts, stories, and lots of mess, creating a spiritually healthy, socially relaxed space for families.

The Need of Children within our Local Authority

  1.   Home For Good

Every 15 mins a child or young person is taken into care.    The City of Edinburgh Council are craving more people with the skills, capacity, and room, to become Foster Carers. Slateford Longstone is one of the first Home For Good Churches in Scotland.   Home For Good is a Christian Charity working with churches and local authorities to find every child a home that needs it. It is one of the Guild Project and championed by the Minister who with Minnie is a foster/adoptive parent and has a deep interest in the care of vulnerable children as does the church.    Slateford Longstone will seek to advocate for fostering and help support people involved in that challenging adventure.

If the Vision inspires you, come join us, there is a part for everyone to play!
